I came across a great article the other day that spelt out a few myths about hybrid cars. This article has made me really want to buy a hybrid for my next car. How long do you think until Fuel Cell cars are on the road and at what price?

Firefox Performancing

Long time between posts... I found the transition to blogging fairly difficult due to the fact I had to log into my blog and submit my post through there. Well I now have a new tool (Performancing) that allows me to blog directly from Firefox without having to go to my page. I've had the extension for a while now but hadn't taken the time to give it a go. Hopefully now i'll be able to post more frequently whenever i visit a site i find interesting. I'll give you an update on what i think of the tool in a later post.

Web 2.0

I know I'm a little late to pick up on the Web 2.0 bandwagon but I must say that I'm trying to read as much as possible about it as it's really grabbed my attention. I've recently been exposing myself to a few online collaboration tools that I think are quite cool.

Writeboard - I signed up today to writeboard and was immediately hooked on it's simple, easy to use interface. I think it has grabbed my attention the most due to the relevance of making todo lists for my latest venture of moving house. Rather than emailing myself and room mate with word docs of "What we have" and "What we need", writeboard allows both of us to edit the same list and continually add/change/delete entries to our lists, all whilst tracking changes! Nice one!

Writely - This is another one I've tried that is much more feature rich. I've only had a quick play around but if you are after something a little more powerful that allows you to upload files as well as do some funky text editing this site is definitely worth a look!

Other new collaboration sites I've noted popping up but haven't had the change to try yet are Jotspot Live and Chalk (Not out yet). I hope to get the time soon to check them out and give it a go.

Thanks to TechCrunch for keeping me up to date with the latest Web 2.0 news. Anyone else have any cool Web 2.0 sites they know about?

There is nothing worse these days than watching a surf comp and seeing yet another Kelly v. Andy final. The sad thing is, the way they are currently surfing, no other surfer is in a position to deserve a spot in the final. Yesterday Andy finally won his first event of the year and is slowly creeping up on Kelly's lead in the title race.

I thought this year was finally it, the year for an aussie, Parko, Fanning, Morrisson or any other of the up and comming Aussies (although those three should be considered fairly experienced by now) to really take it to Andy and Kelly, but due to various injuries and soft performances they are yet to pose as a threat.

My pick on who will win this year... Andy again unfortunately.

As a side note, anyone know of any good/cheap/reliable shapers? i need a new stick.

Google Talk

Well i definately won't be the first to be "GTalking" about this but i just gave Google Talk a go. I think it's much more designed around voice conversation, possibly looking to be a force against Skype in the future. It's a nice thin client and smooth interface. I just can't wait for my friends to get a gmail account instead of msn. I remember how much i hated msn messenger when it first came out, i was on icq and didn't want to change over, let's see if the same will happen for good old google.

RSS Reader

I was just looking for a linux version of something like rss bandit and came across bloglines. It has a good interface and i like the idea of being able to check my feeds whether im on windows, linux, or at work!

Anyone know of any other good web based feed readers?

Ubuntu

After giving a couple of distros a go over the past few years (Red Hat 9, Ferdora Core 3, knoppix, MEPIS) I've come across what i think is my favorite. Ubuntu has proven to be the smoothest linux experience i've had so far. After it taking about 3 days to get my wireless network card working on Fedora 3 and only about 5 minutes on Ubuntu, i was pretty much sold on its compatibility.

It was a breeze to install and configure and it doesn't bloat my small partition with a whole lot of useless apps i won't be utilising. I still haven't got the most out of the OS yet but i'm taking it slow and finding out all the good things still to come out!

My rating... 4 out of 5!

The eve of Origin 3

Contrary to the title, my main thoughts at the moment are around lugradio, a podcast about the latest and greatest linux news. I only recently got into podcasts, and have found them to be a great form of train travel entertainment to and from work. The fresh sound of pommie accents is a good change to the usual list of american podcasts, and the chaps are quite quirky.

Don't worry, i haven't forgot...

Bout Time

Well it is about time! i've finally got myself sorted and started my blog. As nerdy as it sounds, i've wanted a blog for quite a while, just haven't had the time to get it up and running. I hope to write about a lot of meaningless stuff, but will try and keep it interesting and possibly educational!
